First things first. You’re getting married. Congratulations.

Thank you for looking over my work. By day I’m a newspaper photographer, a real one. I've done front page assignments for The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. I’ve photographed a couple of presidents, had my pictures used as evidence in court, and even wandered into some mine fields in Nicaragua once. After all that I have to say,

I really, really like going to weddings. Everyone is happy to have their pictures taken, usually there are no arrests, and I never get pepper sprayed.

Now, chances are you don’t hire many photographers. There are a lot of good ones out there who can get the job done. My advice to you is first and foremost hire someone you like. Go get a coffee (or a pint) with a few photographers and see who clicks with you. Second, think about the style you like.

If you’re looking for the B+W picture of the bride with only the red roses colored in... maybe we’re not right for each other. Coming from newspapers, I tend to lean towards a more traditional look rather than a stylized one.

My approach is not so much to gather proof that you got married as it is to convey the feeling of what it was like to be there on that day.

Think about it and maybe we can go out for a coffee (or a pint) sometime soon.
